USA Pentathlon Multisport Names Vaho Iagorashivili as National Team Coach
USA Pentathlon Multisport has announced the hiring of Vaho Iagorashivili as its new national team coach, a move poised to elevate the organization’s competitive standing on the global stage. A three-time Olympian and an Olympic bronze medalist, Iagorashivili’s storied career in modern pentathlon positions him as a natural leader for the next chapter of American success in the sport.
Iagorashivili brings decades of expertise both as an elite athlete and as a coach. As a competitor, he earned his place among the world’s best, representing his country in three Olympic Games and securing a bronze medal in the process. Transitioning into coaching, he proved equally impactful, mentoring athletes to achieve national and international accolades. Under his guidance, numerous athletes have reached podium finishes at World Cups, Pan Am Games, and other prestigious events.
“Vaho is a true icon in the sport of modern pentathlon,” said Kevin Montford, Deputy Director of USA Pentathlon Multisport. “His dedication, deep understanding of the sport, and ability to inspire athletes make him the ideal leader for our program. We’re thrilled to welcome him to this critical role.”
As the national team coach, Iagorashivili’s primary responsibility will be overseeing the training of the USAPM Resident Team. Based at the U.S. Performance Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, the resident program is a cornerstone of USA Pentathlon Multisport’s developmental strategy. This program not only provides top-tier athletes with the resources needed to succeed but also serves as a hub for cultivating the next generation of talent.
The role of head coach is pivotal to the organization’s mission. Modern pentathlon, an Olympic sport that combines fencing, swimming, obstacle, laser pistol shooting, and cross-country running, demands athletes to excel across diverse disciplines. The head coach ensures athletes achieve peak performance in each area, while also fostering the mental toughness required to compete at the highest levels.
“With the combination of my competitive experience and coaching background, I look forward to guiding our athletes to achieve their dreams,” said Iagorashivili. “This is an exciting time for USA Pentathlon Multisport, and I’m eager to contribute to the program’s continued growth and success.”
The state-of-the-art facilities at UNC Charlotte and the U.S. Performance Center will provide Iagorashivili and the team with the tools to succeed. The U.S. Performance Center boasts cutting-edge technology and resources designed for elite athlete development. From advanced biomechanics labs and recovery suites to specialized equipment for each pentathlon discipline, the venue ensures that athletes receive world-class training support.
UNC Charlotte’s integration with the U.S. Performance Center further elevates the program. Its resources include Olympic-grade swimming pools, expansive running tracks, and facilities for fencing and shooting—allowing athletes to refine each aspect of their craft without compromise.
“The facilities here are second to none,” added Iagorashivili. “Combining this, with the talent of our athletes and the dedication of our team, I’m confident we’ll achieve remarkable results.”
Iagorashivili’s appointment signals USA Pentathlon Multisport’s commitment to excellence. His leadership comes at a crucial time, as the organization aims to build momentum leading up to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. With unparalleled facilities, a focused development program, and a coach of Iagorashivili’s caliber, the future looks bright for modern pentathlon in the United States.
This strategic step reaffirms USA Pentathlon Multisport’s dedication to not only advancing the sport nationally but also to ensuring its athletes can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s best. With Vaho Iagorashivili at the helm, the stage is set for an exciting new era of American success in modern pentathlon.
