Athlete Profile: Madison Gonzalez
My name is Madison Gonzalez and I am part of the US Senior National Team-here are Five things you should know about me.
1) Sharing Sports Values
I built a program in Mexico, it was about teaching Olympic Sports and values at an Orphan Girls' House. (from 2019-2023) Specifically: I am deeply passionate about imparting knowledge and instilling the core values of sportsmanship in girls and women who, like me, aspire to become athletes and, more important, better individuals.
My heartfelt desire was to extend this opportunity to those in vulnerable sectors of our society, such as girls residing in orphanages and the daughters of single mothers who are deprived of opportunities. By teaching and sharing the profound benefits of sports, I aim to empower these young individuals, enabling them to unlock their full potential and embrace a brighter future. I aspire to provide them with the tools they need to navigate life's challenges, fostering resilience, determination, and teamwork.
2) RESILIENCE
I used to be a Synchronized Swimmer for the Mexican National Team now I turn 180 degrees and I'm part of Pentathlon on the USA National Team.
I have been an athlete since I was 6 years old, I aspired to compete in the Olympic Games. I started synchronized swimming at 8 and I began to represent Mexico in international competitions from the age of 10 to 19, I attended many competitions in the specialty with 3 World Championship teams, always taking firm steps to achieve my dream. In 2019, due to fate, I had to choose between giving the sport a second chance to reach the Olympic Games or retiring because of eating disorders. I chose the first, I found in the modern pentathlon a refuge full of opportunities to transcend as an athlete and as a human being, today, just 3 years after starting to practice it, I am part of the United States National Team, and I am still in search of my Olympic dream- proudly carrying my flag.
3) OVERCOME
I overcame an eating disorder and learned 5 new disciplines moving from SYNCHRO TO PENTATHLON.
It was of course a huge challenge and I challenged myself many times trying to do my best after I decided to change sports. During this time, I was able to recover from eating disorders, readapted myself to this new sport, moved from a full-time water sport to a new one that has many ground impacts, and learned about an individual sport vs. a team sport and learned that now it is me against me since I used to be on a team sport. I also strengthened my mind every time I fell off the horse to get up and get back on, and thanks to all this, today I became a great athlete and a better human.
4) About my Studies: Sports Marketing
I studied Sports Marketing and am now looking for a master's to keep growing my professional studies. Last October I had a great opportunity to get a Certificate at Real Madrid Sports University. My dream is to build my own Sports Marketing/Management Agency.
5) About My Family
I was born in the United States but more than half of my family live in Mexico and I was raised in Mexico City. I’m proud of my background and my multi-citizenship. I have all the support from my parents and my 2 little sisters, and I have a little dog named Lucas. The other half of my family lives in the USA and they give me support too Especially my Godfather.
They are all my strength.
