Olesinski 4th at Youth Olympic Games

U.S. modern pentathlete Anna Olesinski (Roswell, N.M.) narrowly missed the medal podium with a 4th-place finish on Saturday during the women's pentathlon competition at the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore.

 

Olesinski began the day with an 8th-place finish in the fencing competition, recording 14 victories against nine defeats. She then clocked a time of 2:27.69 in the 200m freestyle swim, good for 18th place, and finished the day with a strong 3rd-place finish in the combined run/shoot event, crossing the line in a time of 12:21.48. Olesinski totaled 3,984 points for the competition.

 

The gold medal in the women's event was won by Cuba's Leydi Laura Moya Lopez with 4,100 points. The silver medal went to Hungary's Zsofia Foldhazi with 4,076 points, and the bronze was awarded to Anastasiya Spas of the Ukraine with 4,064 points.

 

The men's competition in modern pentathlon takes place on Sunday with the United States' Nathan Schrimsher (Roswell, N.M.) in action.
