BEIJING (AP) David Svoboda of the Czech Republic and Amro El Geziry of Egypt set Olympic modern pentathlon records Thursday in shooting and swimming.

The modern pentathlon includes shooting, fencing, swimming, equestrian and running, in that order. Svoboda earned 191 of a possible 200 points in the 10-meter air pistol, and El Geziry completed the 200-meter freestyle in 1 minute, 55.86 seconds.

With the equestrian and running events still to come, Andrey Moiseev of Russia was the leader. Svoboda and Qian Zhenhua of China were tied for second.

El Geziry was 17th thanks to mediocre shooting and fencing scores.
