Ryan lives in Colorado Springs, Colo., and answered the following 10 questions for this month's Athlete Profile... |
Q1: You’re still young and have many years left in the sport, but have you thought about plans once your competitive career is over?
RYAN ANDERSON: I will continue in whatever field I decide to major in at college.
Q2: Have you always lived in the same place or has your family moved around some?
RYAN ANDERSON: I was born in Richmond Va., then moved to Dunwoody Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Then we moved to Clifton Va., for three yearS, and after that the family ended up in Colorado Springs and I've lived there for the last nine years.
Q3: What are your goals for the next year in modern pentathlon?
RYAN ANDERSON: I will not continue with pentathlon this next year, instead I will concentrate on my studies and will participate in collegiate cross-country and track.
Q4: What word or words do you think your closest friends would use to describe you?
RYAN ANDERSON: Wacky, ridiculous, sympathetic, and social.
Q5: What has been your most competitive competition thus far?
RYAN ANDERSON: 2010 Youth A World Championships.
Q6: What would you like to major in at college?
RYAN ANDERSON: Biomedical engineering.
Q7: What’s the Christmas present you most fondly remember receiving?
RYAN ANDERSON: I don't fondly remember any one gift but I do miss the humongous Christmas parties my family used to host. All my relatives would show up and we would eat a big Christmas dinner.
Q8: Who is your modern pentathlon role model?
RYAN ANDERSON: Janusz Peciak
Q9: Do you see modern pentathlon as a sport or as a lifestyle?
RYAN ANDERSON: Modern pentathlon is definitely a lifestyle because practices take much of your free time and a pentathlete generally coordinates their life around practices instead of fitting practices into their schedule.
Q10: What do you enjoy doing most in your spare time?
RYAN ANDERSON: Relaxing with friends and family.
