Dennis Bowsher (Q&A - Feb. 2010)

 

Dennis Bowsher, 26, of Dallas, Texas, won both the Winter Open on Jan. 2 in Palm Springs, Calif., and the San Antonio Qualifier in San Antonio, Texas, on Jan. 31.

Dennis answered the following 10 questions for this month's Athlete Profile...


Q1: What's a pet peeve of yours?

DENNIS BOWSHER: People borrowing things of mine without asking.


Q2: How did it feel to cap 2009 with a bronze medal at the Pan Am Championships?

DENNIS BOWSHER: I'm glad I had a good competition to end the year.  It sets me up for a strong 2010 season.


Q3: Best present you received for Christmas last year?

DENNIS BOWSHER: Mike Ribeiro autographed hockey puck.


Q4: When you look back on your pentathlon career thus far, is there anything you would have done differently?

DENNIS BOWSHER: I'm happy with things I've done to get me where I am today.  I would not have changed anything.


Q5: Why should others become involved in the great sport of modern pentathlon?

DENNIS BOWSHER: It is a sport that is a lot of fun and gives you an opportunity to travel.  I had never been out of the country before I started pentathlon; now I have been to 18 different countries.


Q6: Any New Year's resolutions for 2010?

DENNIS BOWSHER: Not really.  Just continue to do what I do to make myself a stronger athlete.


Q7: You have also dabbled in the sport of taekwondo. Do you still spar with the other WCAP athletes?

DENNIS BOWSHER: I don't because our schedule is so busy there is no time right now to do anything other than pentathlon.


Q8: What's one of the most important things your parents did in your upbringing?

DENNIS BOWSHER: They supported me no matter how good or bad I was doing.


Q9: What do you plan to do after your competition career is over?

DENNIS BOWSHER: I'd like to coach swimming.


Q10: What is one characteristic a person needs to be a champion?

DENNIS BOWSHER: The desire to win, both in competition and in practice.
